Here's for our weekly series for TL:DW (Too long, didn't watch). Our Second story tackles the suspension of Oplan Tokhang and the future of the Philippine National Police.
Following the controversy surrounding the killing of korean businessman Jee Ick Joo at the hands of our very own police force, Gen. Ronald Dela Rosa suspends Oplan Tokhang and will focus more on the efforts of 'Internal Cleansing'.
"A rotten apple spoils the barrel," or in this case, a bunch of rotten apples in different barrels all over the country. Either you focus on clearing up the barrel, separating the rotten ones for the good or just throw out the whole barrel and start from scratch.
The problem the Chief PNP will be facing is a huge backlash on well-off corrupted apples that are already stuck at the bottom (I mean really deep down there) which will make it harder to clean. Let's take for example a scenario in which you inherit a barrel of apples from a stranger and you want to sell those apples. You sell and sell to your local customers then one day a tourist chokes on an apple and returns it, saying it is rotten. You then find out that you have been selling rotten apples all day but the locals don't care because you're the only source of apples in town. Now everybody speaks up because of the tourist's complaint. What do you do? Clean the Barrel and start over, which will be costly and will end up losing more apples. Or pick out the rotten ones, which will take more time, time that will certainly help the rotten ones to infect others.
The PNP's Internal Cleansing is a step in the right direction, so here's to hoping for its success.
You can trust me, I'll only send you the good stuff.
